Forgan's Creed.... for poker?

Mar 19, 2008 2:50 pm Report Abuse

Hey there everyone - thought I'd share this, it seems to pretty much sum up what I love about this crazy game we play...

Forgan's Creed

"Good poker* is a state of mind. Poker* is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.

A child can play it well, and a grown man can never master it.

Any single game* of it is full of unexpected triumphs and seemingly perfect hands* that end in disaster.

It is almost a science, yet it is a puzzle without an answer.

It is gratifying and tantalizing, precise and unpredictable.

It requires complete concentration and total relaxation.

It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect.

It is at the same time rewarding and maddening

and it is without doubt the greatest game that man has ever invented..."

...the funny thing is - the above was written by David Forgan, an avid amateur golfer transplanted to America from St. Andrews, Scotland, penned in the 1890's. It is the finest description of golf I have ever read... and it fits so well with poker ( I only changed the * words) that I had to put it out for you all to enjoy...

best of luck to all - on and off the felt!

John Seth Sherman

so true with poker, but I must admit I know nothing about golf.
