The Debates That Will Never Die

Mar 6, 2008 9:15 pm Report Abuse

Or perhaps I should say the screaming matches that will never die. Here are some disagreements that will never go away, nor will they ever get much rational discussion. (not that some people don't try to discuss them rationally, just that there are so many people so charged up about these issues, that most often threads get hijacked, and the loud drown out the rest)

  • Is internet poker rigged?
  • Which site is best to play at?
  • Is Gus Hansen good or lucky? (or substitute any other player with detractors)
  • Is Phil Helmuth a jackass? (or substitute any other player who's been loud on tv)

Is Internet poker rigged? Hmm, this is definetly the biggest urban legend of online poker. every site is accused at some point of juicing there pots and increasing the size of the rakes with action flops, or cards that hit a lot of players in a way that just can't be random. unfortunately, most online players are unfamiliar with the laws of statistical variances.

Which site is best to play at? To avoid a lot of useless heartache, you best bet is to do a little research on the site before you make a deposit. Usually, poker sites affiliated with professional poker players are going to try to stay reputable in such a media-saturated world. also, most online poker sites are located off-shore and are not regulated by any governing body. This may make some people feel uneasy, but if your a poker player then this probally is not you.

Is Gus Hansen Good or Lucky? Both. He didn't get where he's at today just by getting lucky, trust me! There is no such thing as getting lucky consistently.

Is Phil Helmuth a jackass? Well....no comment..lol
