Medical Marijuana Should Be Legalized
Research was published in Marijuana Magazine that people believe in legalizing
medical marijuana and agree with medical doctors, that medical marijuana has
wonderful results in offering relief from nausea, vomiting and pain to most patients
suffering from many illnesses, diseases and disorders. There is a debate with the
doctors and patients against some state governments and the Supreme Court.
This argument is a debate over medical marijuana for people with any illnesses.
The government state there is no evidence to prove that marijuana works for any
kind of treatment. We disagree, because the patients that it does work for believe
that and it is all the evidence you need, and the doctors can see that it work for there
patients. So if it works for them, why does the government denied them of relief? In
our opinion, we feel that it just makes the government clueless, because they have
no medical experience or compassion for the patient. From the various studies that
have been done on medical marijuana that has shown evidence for having positive
medical effects on the patients. Throughout history the plant is known as cannabis
has been used for medical purposes all over the world for years. By classifying
medical marijuana under the eyes of the patient, the Supreme Court and some state
governments are failing to acknowledge all of the therapeutic advantages of medical
marijuana. Doctors, patients and caregivers have been trying to find enough positive
facts to try to convince the Supreme Court and some State Government in making it a
legal drug for illnesses, diseases and disorders. (McWilliams, P. 1997)
The history and facts of marijuana is a natural plant that comes from the beginning of
time, known as cannabis, sativa, ruderlaris, inica, and now a days many street names.
For smoking theses plants, the stems, seeds, bud, and leaves are dried, rolled into
cigarettes or stuffed into a pipe, lit, and inhaled for relief. The psychoactive effects are
caused by pychotoxins components are natural delta-9-tetrahydrocannibinol (THC)
and not man made, unlike some dangerous medicines they have created. There are
many kinds of THC have been study and used for medical use.
(Ziegler et al… June 20, 1997}
The oldest record used for medical purposes was found in a Chinese text from the
year 2737 B.C. “Emperor Shen-Nung in China prescribes cannabis for beriberi,
constipation, female weakness,’ gout, malaria, rheumatism and absentmindness.”
(National commission on marihuana and drug abuse 1972). The year 2000B.C. Egypt
used it for sore eyes. 200A.D. ancient Greece used it for inflammation, edema and
earaches. 200A.D. Hoa-Tho a Chinese doctor prescribed cannabis for an analgesic for
surgeries. Pre 1700’s Africa use cannabis to increase the appetite back to its original
state and to break the sameness of hemorrhoids, tetanus, hydrophobia, delirium,
infantile convulsions, neuralgia, cholera, menorrhagia, rheumatism, hat fever, asthma,
skin diseases, and child birth. Napoleon and his army came back in 1799 with some
samples of the drug, with the knowledge and the interest of it pain relieving and the
sedative effects. An Irishman named William O’Shaughnessy in 1839 wrote the first
article on the drug, and in 1840, he brought it to everyone attention, 1842 he used extra
large doses to cure tetanus. “Various marijuana and hashish extracts are the first,
second, or third most prescribed medicine in the United States from 1842 until 1890s”
(Jack Herer November 2000). Dr John Bell from Boston in 1857 found it was a great
way to restrain mentally ill patients with mental and emotional disorders. Moreau de
Tours found that hashish made from the resins of cannabis to treated several cases
of manic and depression disorders in 1858. Patients respond well to smoking the drug
that had neuralgic pain, dysmenorrhea, uterine hemorrhage, hysteria, delirium, mania,
increasing appetite, epilepsy, tetanus, muscular spasms, palsy, and whooping cough,
this was reported by the Committee on Cannabis Indica of Ohio State Medical Society in
1860. From the years 1893 to 1893 India Hemp Commission had question their country
on the use of cannabis that worked well for an anti-diarrheic, a hemostat, an ecbolic,
boost energy an analgesic, used as an aid for chronic ulcers, open score, swollen
testacies, incontinence, impotence, diabetes, gonorrhea, dysentery, cholera hay fever, a
prevention insomnia, anxiety relief, increase appetite, and concentration. Dr. Douthwaite
in 1947 used cannabis hashish for tension anxiety reduction, in duodenal. HH Ramsey
and JP Davis use it as research in 1949 on five young children with epileptic seizures that
were institutionalized, three of them responded well, the fourth one was almost seizure
free and the fifth was completely free of seizures. Dr. J. Kapelikovi in 1952 used the alcohol
content of the drug as an antibacterial, and found a paste form used as a external
application, both of them work well.
A Czechoslovakian scientist also did a study on 2000 herbs and found that indica was a
greatest amount forms of antibiotics used. Drs. Thomas and Proctor in 1953 used a
synthetic form of cannabis called Pyrahexyl, for the with draw symptoms of alcoholics
that only work to a degree, but not as much as the real thing. “Lee Green stated “in 1957,
a Wisconsin farmer harvested the last legal commercial hemp crop in America”
(Los Angeles Times, January 18, 2004). In 1960, Krejci, Santavy and Kabelik use the extract
on microorganisms that work great for diphtheria, forms of staphyloccus, pneumonia. In
1969 Dr Walters used it to prevent mal seizures. In 1975, Journal of the National Cancer
Institute in an article Antineoplastic of Cannabinoid a Medical College of Virginia team note:
“The active chemical agent in marijuana curbs the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice
and may also suppress the immunity reaction that causes the rejection of organ transplants.
The researcher find that “THC slowed the growth of lung cancer, breast cancer and a
virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolong their lives by as much as 36 percent”
(Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1975). The last 27 years there has been nothing
but debate on marijuana for medical use.
The doctors have used the TCH pill (Marinol) and it works on some patient, except
patients who vomit uncontrollably and can not retain the pill long enough to work, this is why
doctors are fighting the debate against some governments and the heartless Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court and some of the State Governments are against the use of medical
marijuana and can still be put in jail for having it, even with a prescription from a doctor or with
their advice to releive nausea. Peter McWilliams was a famous New York Times best selling
author from California, the first state to make it legal under the federal law starting the birth of
Proposition 215 and are aloud to grow 99 plants for there own medical marijuana. Peter
McWilliams wrote 3 books on line called Ain’t Nobody’s Business if I Do, Medical Marijuana,
How to Grow Medical Marijuana by Peter McWilliams and Todd McCormick and can be
retrieved at
www.mcwilliams.com . He was the man of proof when he was diagnosed with
aids and hopskinlatheoma cancer March of 1996. Peter McWilliams stated:
“The nausea, however, ended instantly with medical marijuana. With one puff of marijuana,
the nausea turned to hunger. Thank Mother Nature for that Mother Nature is one of Nature’s
Gods, (from the Declaration of Independence). Medical marijuana has been around for
5000 years and it hasn’t killed any one” (McWilliams July 4, 1998).
During the writing of his book How to grow Medical Marijuana, he was arrested by the
Federal Government for growing more then 99 plants and was considered a kingpin. He was
told he was not aloud to smoke medical marijuana no more, because he was put on probation.
The worse part of this he had discovered that his AIDS was eliminated from smoking medical
marijuana, because he could keep his AIDS medicine down without vomiting uncontrollably.
Patients stop taking chemotherapy because of the nausea, and the doctor are afraid of them
dying of malnutrition because they don’t eat for days due to the nausea. We feel the
government is playing with patient lives, turning them into skeletons, acting like god and
eventually killing them, as the did to a wonderful person like Peter McWilliams. In the loving
memory of Peter McWilliams (1949 – 2000), this man will be remembered for a life time.
Research was also published in the Schaffer Library of Drug Policy which states the risk
of abuse is the issue we need to look at is the nasty debate of marijuana being legalized. The
studies have shown that there is more of a benefit in smoking marijuana then there are risks.
Results of these studies should be interpreted with caution, because of the mixed results.
However, for those who use marijuana as a last resort to treat their pain, they should have the
option of having access to a legal source. Physiological or not, the evidences that support
patients who smoke marijuana to relieve there illnesses, obviously feel a lot better by smoking
it. If marijuana is used physiologically, the patient should be allowed to have dignity. The bottom
line is marijuana is use is for therapeutic purposes should feel effective to those who smoke it.
There are numerous of studies done over decades on short term and long term use to know
what the effects are. If the patient wants to take a risk on smoking marijuana to help them
cope with their illness, then it is their choice. There is absolutely no doubt, that medical
marijuana is a wonderful drug for patients and they should have the right to be allowed to
smoke it legally for medical purposes. In this point and time, all the evidence in the world has
made it crystal clear, that the issue with the Supreme Court that marijuana is used for
therapeutic purposes, but sill they don’t care. The benefits of smoking marijuana outweigh
the risks of smoking marijuana and really needs to be legalized. So please support this
issue for the sick patients, who need medical marijuana
(Ziegler, J. el alJune20,1997).

JointsRuleeeeess!!!
Don`t get your hopes up, Americans
It will NEVER be legalized in the US. You simply have too many close-minded, uninformed opponents to it. It is a threat to governments and corporations alike. Reefer Madness stil persists. Billions are spent on the `War on Drugs` to absolutely no avail. Criminal organizations are the only winners in that war. Legalize it, tax it like cigaretttes or alcohol, and watch that MASSIVE national debt shrink away. Police it the same way. Growers need licenses to grow and sell. No toking and driving, or being baked in public, like alcohol. No more prisons filled to the breaking point with people who got caught with a joint, their incarceration paid for by taxpayers. I could go on & on. Remember that ignorance can be fixed, but there ain`t no cure for stupid. (end of rant...)
Good Luck on & off the felt.
And do you know what people put on pot. They pour some liquid, glue like stuff on it and press the buds down so it gets flattened and more compressed and they can make 5 pounds of pot look like 1 pound and it is all bricked up and easier to transport. You will see a piece of bud that looks like 1 gram and it breaks up into 5 fat blunts. That stuff they pour on it is bad for you, you have to watch where you get your pot from because you have no idea what is put on it
relief for arthritis sufferers
thats very true!!!!
That stuff they pour on it is bad for you, you have to watch where you get your pot from because you have no idea what is put on it
