Would a Value Bet Have Been Better?

Feb 21, 2008 5:37 am Report Abuse

I am playing in a ring game, at a full table, and in the big blind I am dealt AA. Two players limp in front of me so I bump it up to 4BB; they both call.

The flop is 892 rainbow, so I'm not too scare. I bet about two thirds of the pot, and much to my surprise they both call. A 3 comes on the turn, and again I bet about two thirds of the pot, and again they both call.

At this point I am very nervous. I am worried that one or both of them might have hit the flop hard, and are gonna bust me if I don't watch out. Then, came relief. On the river an ace hit. I have the second nut, and no real concerns that either of them paid so much to go runner runner for the wheel.

But the question I was left with was how to maximize profit. In the end I figured that any hand that had me beat on the turn would call anything at this point, and any hand that didn't would likely be scared off by the ace (except if one of them had been chasing big slick; that would likely call anything).

So I decided to go all-in (I only had slightly more than the pot in my stack), in hopes that one of them had trips or two pair. Unfortunately, they both folded.

My question to you is do you think that going all-in had the best EV or should I have bet lower or even checked?

stack sizes and reads would help. Generally, if this was a micro stakes table, the push tends to be the best bet.

Yes it was micro, I had started with about 120BB and they both had me covered. They were both pretty loose pre-flop, but tended to fold on the flop pretty often. One of them was also somewhat aggressive.

The pot should be a little over 10 dollars after the Ace hit on the river if this was on .05/.10.... Seems that both were on either draws or pocket pairs that did not hit a set and I doubt you'd get any calls from them after the river
