$1.20 SnG Waste of time?

Feb 20, 2008 10:09 pm Report Abuse

I used to play alot of freerolls and finally came to the conclusion I was ready to start playing real money. So I deposited $25 (don't laugh) on Pokerstars and have been playing on it for quite some time now. I'm always up & down sitting at about $18.00 right now. I am feeling more comfortable playing now but am starting to feel like since I am playing the cheapest SnG available I am playing against people that will call anything and play junk all the time. I have been trying to take advantage of this but it's hit & miss. I was wondering what people's opinion on this was? Any comments welcome. Thanks

I've known several people that have started a bankroll here. Most prefer the 45 seaters. I know one guy that started a $4,000+ bankroll at these limits

I quit playing NL sit & Go under 10$ few months ago. Waste of time for me... Kind of Bingo and i'm not lucky at Bingo...

GL to you

I depostied $10..don't laugh..lol..I play the $1/ 9 people sit and go's and have done quite well. I am not ready yet to start playing in anything bigger yet..I do play in the RB money tourney's there and occassionally the 25 cent ones..

Money-wise, I'm in roughly the same boat as you - around $15-$20.

I've found that for now, sticking to the $1.20 SNGs is the best idea especially if you can achieve consistent, solid results (eg cashing 1 in 2, winning 1 in 3, etc). At least that way, you can build up your bankroll, albeit fairly slowly.

Take your time, there is no hurry. Far better to improve your OWN game, and let the donkeys and fish donate you their hard-earned.

Mind you, this is only my opinion. Feel free to disgree.

I found a style that worked for me and played the 45-man SNGs at $1.20. I played 100 hundred using this style and finished ITM a third of the time with an ROI of over 60%. That gave me the bankroll to move to the next level.

The main thing about any online poker game is to identify what kinds of players you're facing. It doesn't matter whether it's a $1 or $10 tourney, you have to know your enemy.

Donks don't only exist in low limit sng's, but you have to learn to beat them too. Stay within your limits but through in an occasional $3 or $5 to spice things up for you.

Hey thanks for all the input I'll take all of it I can get. This was my first post and thanks for all the support.

I started that low, off of $6 from a freeroll, actually. If you read a couple of articles on bankroll management, you'll find that you are actually playing right at the top of your limit right now. And the 20% fee will take its toll if that is all that you are playing.

I played micro limit, Fixed Limit hold'em to slowly but safely build.

And work on your heads up game, you have to get 1st's to really start getting profit.

def play $1 45 man turbos, play super tight at beginning, but if u have the chips at the end start to bully, i like them they r easy to win at. u should try it, gl

I started with $50.00 on full tilt i have done well since i started playing $2.25 turbo 6 sit and go still up and down though but you only have to see 4 people leave to get the money(4.20 for 2nd 7.80 for 1st). I usually play pretty tight.

hey wolf, I started at Pokerstars after I finished 8th in a freeroll we had there earlier this month, so far playing there occasionally, moved the $8.60 prize up to $17.10 by playing 45 person sng's, mainly play a tight game like you would in a lot of other tourneys and try to maximize the value on any rush I get, make a goal when you start the tourney to cash, then after cash - make top 3, then go for the win, the toughest part of those is being patient and accumulating chips in the final 3/2 tables so you are not short in the final table, if you are short at the final table, be paitent and keep the goals in mind, I have been playing at that level for this month on and off so I'm no expert but if you are solid, you should succeed...good luck out there

you are losing to much to the rake, i play $1.10sng 10seat at UB, SO IT ONLY COST .10 TO play and with extra player you win $5, i've only played 1 game at PS and i aggree the play was horrible, idiot called my all in bet [ i had QQ] with A4 ....... 4 on the flop 4 on the turn
BangMyFatty Feb 21, 2008 3:54 am
I play the 9 man ones and make a good profit off them. Many poor players that will call with mediocre hands. Just be patient and take advantage of them
Lysurgeon Feb 21, 2008 3:59 am
i prefer to grind it out at the micro limit holdem games, this is on FT though...cash tables are way better for building a br...
JasperJr Feb 21, 2008 4:07 am
  • My experience is that the single tables work out best. The bigger the tourney the more it is a crapshoot. I like to see all the opponents for the whole game to learn their styles. There are boneheads at every level - example I saw at least 1 guy who lost over $12K playing $3 and $5 tourneys. This dude was classic ace chaser, calling station - you need to play solid to beat those guys.
Phil922 Feb 21, 2008 4:17 am
I play on FT, and have gotten to about $35 games from what i have gotten from various freerolls, and play the 1.25 9 people games and will play 2.25 tourneys because i am much better in a large tourney then a sit and go, but stick to the 1.25 sit and gos
harrysaini4 Feb 21, 2008 4:42 am

i would recomend playing in the $0.10, $0.25, or $0.50 tourneys, you earn get great experience on how 2 play the donks

ramertamer2 Feb 21, 2008 5:14 am
i play the 50c sngs not the slightest bit embarrassed about it either.Right now im just out to have fun and learn as much as i can .Later whne ive asterred the game much better ill go afterthe bigger bucks. i just took 1st cha ching 2.10 more for the bank and im 16th in a freeroll 464 left to go gl at the tables
Jim Harris Feb 21, 2008 5:31 am

I won 5 dollars in a freeroll on ps and started playing the microlimit cash tables and hope for a donk to sit down at 1 and 2 cent blinds u can afford to wait for premium hands abnd bust that donk at will if he wants to play that way take advantage Im over 50 dollars in less than a week playing 1 and 2 cent blinds just be patient. gl
