wow guys tonight i went and played in a home game tourney.
In Maryland we don't have the right to gamble unless it is set up by the state... so the only legal gambling we have is the states keno , lotto and the lottery.
my nephew and fellow RB ( http://www.railbirds.com/rails/jeffpoulette/ ) was looking around online and found a site that listed home games in Maryland.
he ran across one that does a tourney style tourney every Monday so he got in contact with the guy to find out the details.
come to find out they avg around 30 people.
buyin $20 with a one time add on for another $10. $20 = 40 chips. add on of $10 = 20 more. 28 people 4 places paid.
I did the buy in and add on to start.
the blinds started at 1 chip/ 2chips and they doubled up every 15 Min's. When you only start with 60 chips they seem to go up pretty quick.
The first hand i got to play was like 50 Min's into the tourney. Got dealt K 7 in the BB. i checked to see a flop... the flop came K 7 J. small blind checked as so did I, but i knew i wanted to get my chips in and was hoping SB hit something on the turn. The turn was a Q and SB bet out, since the blinds were up and for me to just call would have been like half my stack i moved all in and was called. He hit his Q but since i checked the flop i guess he thought he had me. Well i doubled up and just in time because i was in trouble.
they say a chip and a chair is all you need and for me tonight that was the story.
when i went all in i was one of the short stacks with like 18 people left.
i was able to hang in there and make the final table of 8.
when we hit the final table , i wasn't the short stack but i was in the back of the pack. i guess i was in about 6th place.
I went on to take 3rd place out of 28. I had to push all in with A 2 and was called by the big stack... i had him till the river when he paired his 5.
I'm pretty happy because this was my first live tourney and i did well.
To the people that hosted this game... i have to say they did a awesome job and it was very well organized.
They had a program on the PC that told them when the blinds went up. they balanced the tables when it was time , and what was pretty cool is after a few people went out and we went from 3 tables to 2 tables. they open the empty table as a cash table for the ones that were out.
so even if you went out of the tourney you could go sit at the cash table for a while.
this home tourney is the shit and the people were great.
there is no doubt that i will be going again and hopefully it will be next Monday.
bty i took 3rd for $75 and even better i had a total blast hanging out and playing some poker with others that love the game.
tc my friends and gl to all.
