In a spot I have been before, and I am tired

Jan 28, 2008 7:06 pm Report Abuse

I am not necessary looking for advice, I just need to put some words down and see if anyone can relate. I first started playing online poker on Bodog about three years ago. When all the legislation came out, I stopped playing poker online and withdrew my money. Last year in April i decided to deposit some money back into Full tilt. So i have pretty accurate records of my wins and loses during the last year. When I first started out, I really was more a tournament guy and SNG then cash. Well I won a tourrney in July of last year and got my bankroll up to my highest level on FT. After that it was pretty much a free fall down to to almost having to buy back in. Well fortunately I was able to advoid that and slowly build my way back up. It was difficult at first to change my cash game, but after a while practicing what I learn and using good bank roll management I have been able to build my stack up again. After a long weekend of poker playing (about1200 hands on friday and saturday), I realize that I am really tired. I am not tired of poker, I am just tired in general. This is my issue. I have worked really hard to get back to where I am, I need a break. I really do not want to start pushing to make more money when I do not need to. I think this was my first mistake. I am going to continue with my game plan. I just realized it have worked very hard to get to this point again and hope I do not have to do it again. You never realized just how much work you put into something until you get done with it. Now, I made my first major goal, getting my BR back, I need to find some new goals. I am working on that right now. I have started to play different games. I usually play PL 6 max, I am moving to PLO and full ring games and Limit holdem. I am getting a little bored of the same game.

The second issue that I am having is I really am tired. One of the reasons I like this site is because I think more people are in the same boat that I am. I do go on others but most the replys are from much younger people. Although I respect their games and their understanding on poker I donot think they have a clue about life in general. I think I play well and can be profitable, but I am 36 years old and cannot play 1200 hands for 10 hours a day to make money. I did it for two days and it wore me out. Trust me I am not 20 years old wondering if I should drop out of school instead of getting a "job" because my win rate is 4/BB on the 50 dollar table. I have a good paying job, a mortgage a wife and two kids. My wife just shifted from midnights to days. So, know I come home and cook and clean and do homework with my 12 year old. Which in and of it self is truly tiring. The reason why I like to play poker because I only have to think about poker. I really just had to say is I am tired, life is tiring, poker is tiring, cooking and cleaning is tiring. I am probably over weight and I am tired. Can anyone else relate.

you bet,

I tried playing mtt buyins ($1-$6) full time for a month and it nearly put me off poker for life....

I only play for fun- mostly freerolls but the occasional buyin..

I only try and clear bonuses that dont expire...

I only play if I feel like I really want to...

Playing full time would be a nightmare imho- it's a great game, but very few can make a serious living out if it and you'll get bored, which'll lead to costly mistakes....

Play for fun, dont chase bonuses and dont rely on it for income.......

I have a full time job and only play a bit in evenings/ at weekends- any more and I'd go mad, there's more to life and poker can get in the way of relationships/ other ambitions so it's just not worth it
