STUD PART 3
GENERAL TIPS
- The best play is deciding to play or fold on 3rd street. This is true of any poker game and more money can be saved here than anywhere. Most players who call here will end up playing through to the end with just a mediocre hand.
- Stud is primary a game of memory and looking. You have to see what cards are in play but also remember what cards where folded at the beginning of the hand
- Don’t be tempted to drive all players out of the pot, there is 2 reasons for this, the first is it creates a bigger pot (true of all poker games) the 2nd is with more cards in play you can quickly see if you have the best hand or the possibilities of making your hand
- A player raising on 3rd street usually has a pair minimum. 3rd street is a bad place to be raising with a drawing hand
- A re-raise on 3rd street will likely be a high pair (split) or trips, so you should be able to tell the hand here
- Anyone who pairs on 4th street will have 2 pair or trips minimum (especially if they raise, which you should do naturally if you have a pair showing)
- On 4th street no one has made a drawing hand as you need 5 cards to do so, therefore if you suspect someone of drawing raise into them and make them pay to make there hand, (remember being limit they will generally always have pot odds
- Anyone pairing still in the hand at 6th street can be assumed to have made a full house
- If you have 2 pair on 6th street you will make your full house only 1 time in 12, therefore that is why high starting cards are more profitable for 2 pair
- Someone with junk up on 7th street and suddenly starts to bet heavy is bound to have made a perfect full house (perfect because it is all hidden)
- Finally think of the scenarios you are drawing to and all the possible outcomes, what if 2 of you are drawing to the a hand, it is only going to be profitable for you 1 time in 4, the outcomes are
You miss / they miss
You miss / they hit
You hit / they hit
You hit / they miss
Here you can see you make 1 time and miss 3, so if you are drawing be sure you will win if you both hit to even the score.
I will not cover outs and odds as they apply to all poker games and have already been done
