Home Games vs Online Poker

Jan 24, 2008 4:53 pm Report Abuse

Something is bugging me. The fact that i do kinda well in Tournament online, but i seem to lose quite much when it comes to Home Cash games. I don't think my strategy is online is that different from the strategy's I use against my friends, but what i'm wondering is if I should play very differently in cash games.

Is there anyone that can answer this question for me?

Not sure I can help ya there but.... I do much better with the home games then the online ones. I almost always walk away winning at home or live games. My guess is that I know how these ppl play and can get better reads on their hands. We got one of those that stays in to the end ppl even with garbage, one that folds unless they got top hole cards, a few that stay till the flop no matter what is bet. So on line to me it takes longer to get to read the players at the table. Then once I do wham switched to another table. Soo I tend to play more one table games then any other. I know it wasnt any help but to me ya just gotta watch cause they are watching you. Gl on the felt

Yeah, we do the same as you. Play all hands you get, see all flops and stuff, thats why im better at online :P. I always seem to send tactics in the home games that guys at home game dont get so i get busted by l lucky hands and stuff

Could it be that the people in your home game are astute enough to pick up on your body language, and you don't have a good poker face ? I have a good friend that is very sucessful in online sit-n-go play, but when he sits down at a live table it is so easy to tell when he has a hand just by the way he looks at his cards, when he has a good hand he actually stares at them and kinda lights up...lol..and when he doesn't he just puts them down quickly and looks away , even the most inexpierenced players pick up on this. Of course we don't tell him about it tho, as he is easy money....lol...

...play on .........Tc..............

Live plays out nothing like online. Online is a juiced up game to enduce action and has tons of bad beat suck outs. Live a 70% favorite to win wins at a 70% rate, online that 70% favorite loses at a 70% rate. But thats only for good players. If you suck they sites bail you out.

look for tells, people can read SO much more in person than from a betting pattern

First of all bro you should play cash games totally different than tournys. They are totally different games. In tournaments you need to play more aggresive in some positions and more passive in others. I never understood why someone would risk all their chips pre flop early in a tournament when the blinds are still small. with say a hand like AK, AQ, TT and so on. These are great hands later in tournaments but you get one of these hand early in early position i would think twice about calling someones all in out of position. Im not sayin fold everytime but give it some thought. after all you havent been playin at the table long and you havent picked up any betting patterns or reads on any of your opponents. I would compare your cash game stats and your tournament stats and see what you are doing wrong. But like i said these are two totally different games.

Ok 2 things come to mind very quickly , 1 cash games are totally different than tourney's and live is totally different than online so they require 2 very different strategies, online I play tight in tourney's until usually the first break and then I still play pretty tight until it get fairly late in the tourney then the real game starts, action hands are routine online but more rare live, so that 's the general difference to me.

The second thing that comes to mind is if you play the same friends all the time they may have very well picked some tells on you , it's usually hard to read a player you've never played before so if they play you the same people all the time that may be the problem, gl

Maybe your friends are hustling you for your dough. Just a thought.
