Ace - 10 .... is this not an all-in hand?

Jan 22, 2008 4:44 pm Report Abuse

Being delt Ace -10 (whether it be suited or not, always gives me a warm feeling. I can't help myself, I need to raise .... right? So here I am raising .... get re-raised, so here I go ALL-IN. I get beat by pocket 2's? Who re-raises with pocket 2's? Maybe my initial raise was to low (approx. $800 out of small blind 10/20 blinds), but when I push the rest of my chips in (approx $4500) Who would call it? I can see calling with K,K or Q,Q, but 2,2? What is the reasoning behind this move?

Why in the world would you go all in with A10? That's a terrible all in hand unless youre desperate and about to blind out of a tourney. Any pocket pair 10's or better or AJ AQ AK and youre dominated.

yes...this person is a donkey or jus got bored. i hav to say AT doesn't look that strong wen u get reraised like that...but u maybe had a read on this guy...its just plain old unlucky...sorry to hear...good luck in the future

I wouldnt have push A 10 allin preflop or call someones allin hand. Unless I had a stack that covers the opponent at least 4x or 5x they stack. and depending what level the blinds are.

Bad Move My opinion any hand not worth an all in preflop. Only time I would go all in preflop is if I'm short stacked - less than 10 X bb in chips. Or huge lead with big antes worth stealing late in tourny.

I don't get any warm feeling from AT suited or not ,it's very easily beat , I don't love 22 for all my chips either though lol, gl

wtf? ur blinds are off or ur over bettine preflop either way terrible play all around

So you already have $4500 in chips and blinds are only 10/20? If so this tells me it is begining of a tourney and looks like you have gone allin at least once maybe twice to have your stack. If this is the begining of a tourney and especially a freeroll then this is going to be a typical call. A lot of bingo players in the gegining. AT is certainly not an all-in hand in my opinion and calling with 22 is pretty ballsy but close to a 50 50 for the odds (AT suited 50.7% vs 22 48.6%; AT offsuit 47.7% vs 22 51.7%)

That is a very tricky hand for me. I don't think your raise is bad from a late position (early position I might just limp or fold); we all have those hands that we love (KT and JT are addictive for me). However, I would have been scared by the re-raise. Your opponent might have just been making a move against you. But your raise was not low (40xBB), but it's size MIGHT have seemed suspicious.

So, the only explinations are: they were attempting a steal and felt pot committed, they are in love with 22, or they are blind and don't have a card-reading program.

I personally would have played both hands differently, but I am by no means an expert, just offering my personal view.

Best of luck, fellow birdie.

So you are risking almost 20% of your stack to gain less than a 1% increase with a marginal hand at best....you played this horribly. Most likely the guy with the twos put you on the type of hand you had and decided to gamble.
King505 Jan 22, 2008 5:52 pm

Why a raise to 800 in 10 / 20 blinds ?

smkey Jan 22, 2008 6:17 pm
ace ten suited i could see but off suit its to big of a gamble you made a very bad play and who calls with a pair of twos? anybody that hopes to catch the other two any pair you go in with you hope to catch trips this player was no donkey he just played what was dealt to him and won give him or her credit
AislingGrey Jan 22, 2008 6:22 pm
Drawing hand at best.. any pair can beat you if you don't hit or draw, which is exactly what happened. That low of blinds, I really don't understand your raise to 800 to start with, and that huge push, that was asking for it.
huhwahhappen Jan 22, 2008 10:08 pm
I prefer to just limp in with A-10
