Why play slow at a "turbo" table?

Jan 18, 2008 2:37 am Report Abuse

Why does it seem that I always find at least one player sitting at a "TURBO" table play slow!!! This terribly enfuriates me!!! You, yeah you! I know you can read me WHY?? I ask WHY?? Is this your way of feeling control over others at the table ... or are you just that ignorant? If your going to play slow then sit at a s-l-o-w-e-r t-a-b-l-e

Yea this can be a bit frustrating. However I can also see why someone with a higher stack size may do this as well. With a high chip stack it will force the smaller stacks to go all in more often, and if you are sit and go it makes it so people are getting knocked off left and right, getting you closer and closer to being in the money.
Or they have lousy computers and connection and they just slow.

Some may play slow to make the cash. Others like me just have nothing to do with their day and want to make the most of their time, or maybe yep maybe like you state above it could just tilt someone.

I play turbo no different than I do the regular tournaments. I try to vary my decision making and not get into a pattern that can be read. The key to turbo is not to panic because the blinds rise faster. Use that to your advantage. Slow playing at turbo tables can cause others to panic and go on tilt.

Personally, I don't play a turbo tourney any different than a regular tourney. i still take the same time to make my decisions as I would any other time. Sliver's got a point too, people are dropping out like flies getting you closer to the money.

not many things put me on tilt....but when some genius slow plays in a turbo i just wanna pull my hair out.......well...what hair i have left that is...

If I have a small stack then I do scream at these ppl to hurry up. LOL

But the strategy behind playing slow is when you have a super-stack in a turbo MTT because people get knocked out of these alot faster than in normal online MTTs so if I have a really big stack I will take a few more seconds to make my decisions because I know that in those few extra seconds a few extra people elsewhere will get knocked out and I am therefore closer and closer to the money and the final table.

it happens depending on what there stack is and there style of play and if it makes you mad that can be part of the plan I stoped worring about it myself no matter what my stack is as it only gets me and many emotional and that doesn't help my game and infact can make you make poor decisions with that player too eh

Turbo or not, I play slow just to piss people off.

Another thing, if somebody playing slow is getting on your nerves don't say anything. I have seen others slow down when they see it is getting on somebodies nerves.

Turbo sng's are usualy fast paced.

Ive sat and made the money before posting any blinds in them. People are crazy in them. some will say its the ALLIN or FOLD game.

another thing to look at is if you do double up early, and the blinds are getting up there, you can use the clock so people wont have a choice but to go allin and you can sit back and make the money.

remember a turbo game does not mean you need to play fast...it means the blinds go up fast...you dont need to win any hands to cash, if the blinds kill everyone before you.

they do that just to tilt you and it seems to be working
don't let it bother you and just play your cards and take there chips
btw the turbo means that the blinds increase faster so it is usually to your advantage to go more quickly but if you have a strong game then it does not matter so much and you can afford to take your time to put people on tilt and take there chips

personally, if I know time pisses you off, I'll go on the clock every hand to put you on tilt. It's a pretty effiecient strategy, because there are a lot of guys like you out there. I use the clock because I AM ALLOWED.......ten seconds then the time clock... get used to it.
