Well, im a new member to this site and i want to learn the game of poker. I play some live poker and i always win a little bit. I have never lost alot or taken home a big pot. I would call myself a safe player. It seems to me i always make the right reads but get sucked out on no matter what. Am i doing something wrong or is this just bad luck?

Getting sucked out on happens to even the best of us. If it's happening a lot though, you could be playing calling stations or "fish". Probally your do well to read about pot odds and implied odds. Your learn more about this, and various playing styles the more you play.

Welcome to Railbirds and Good Luck on and off the Felt!!

Welcome to Railbirds!............I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.

You will find at least three things here that should make you happy. The first one is some great people who will help you whenever thay can, the second is education (LOL......and almsot everything else) about poker, the third is the poker tournys themselves (freerolls and cash buy-ins).

To help get you started here are links to two Railbird pages that I found usefull when I joined, they have the answers to about everything Railbird related:

First of all here is a link to the Railbird.com Frequently Asked Questions http://www.railbirds.com/faq/ ,

and second I recommend A55A55IN's Members blog For All Railbirds - A 'How... .

I wish you good luck, both on and off the tables..........See you on the felt!

Welcome to the sight. if you find yourself getting sucked out on a lot. Try to see if your playing style is sometimes too passive. If you have a good hand, but just keep checking etc, and letting others dictate the betting. They will just check on through until they get the good hand and you are sending chips their way.

Welcome to Railbirds! This is a great community full of useful information as well as some amazing people from around the world.

If you have any questions check out the FAQ section or feel free to just ask!

One thing to remember is online poker is totally different than live poker. There's some great blogs floating around and I would suggest starting with these two:

  • A55A55IN's "How to" Blog for Railbirds
  • A55A55IN's (In)Complete Strategy Guide for Railbirds
  • You can also utilize the search blogs feature to help in aiding some blogs for improving your game.

    Good luck!

    welcome!

getting sucked out on comes with the territory. if it happens consistently, definitely need to analyze your game a bit and see how you can protect yourself a little bit better.

be careful, however, not to just look at the hand and think how you could have pushed them off earlier, etc. hindsight is 20/20, and there are always way you could have played THAT HAND in a way to not get sucked out on, but the reality is that if you've got the best hand, you WANT someone to be drawing at their long shots because it's those donks that pay you off in the long run.

but take a look at the types of hands you are getting donked out to, are multiple people drawing, are making them pay properly for their draws. are you putting all of your chips in the middle, against what kinds of drawing hands? etc. etc.

look for patterns in your play, look for leaks, and plug them as quickly as you can!

i always make mental notes when i play my live cash games, and when i get back home i write then all down in a journal. big hands that i won or lost, any misplays i had, patterns i noticed or just things people were doing when big pots/betting battles were going on in the game, etc. etc. helps me to stay on point.
