RANDOM NUMBER GENERATORS-Letter to POKERSTARS

Jan 9, 2008 2:58 am Report Abuse

HI ALL, BELOW IS A LETTER I AM SENDING TO POKERSTARS. IF ANYONE ELSE IS EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES AS SET OUT BELOW AND WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED IN THE LETTER PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR NAME, EMAIL CONTACT AND YOUR POKERSTARS USER ID. I'LL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED ON THE OUTCOME!
THANKS
PEEVEE

First of all, we would like to thank PokerStars for providing a fun and professional site for all players. We believe PokerStars is currently the best poker site available on the web. Hopefully, you will continue to be the best and for this reason we are writing to you. >>

>>

Many of us are extremely frustrated with PokerStars and below we have outlined the reasons why. A response to the following questions would be appreciated:>>

1. Why are there more four of-a-kind and straight flushes in online games compared to real life games? (We have been playing poker for a long time, some of us well over 30 years and we all agree that there is a higher occurrence of four of-a-kind and straight flushes in online games as opposed to real life games.)>
>
2. In a re-buy tournament why are there more “better starting hands” (pocket cards) per deal before the break as opposed to after the break? (Obviously, the more players re-buy the greater chance they have of either winning more money or gaining entry into a higher level tournament.) Unfortunately, this does not benefit all players!
3. Why is it that after a tournament has been in progress for over an hour, and only a few tables left, two out of three times, the low chip stack looses against a higher chip stack (especially in an all-in scenario pre-flop) when the lower chip stack has a better starting hand (higher percentage of winning)? This is so obvious to us all and perhaps the most frustrating!!! We understand that you are conducting a business and it is to the best interest to end the game as quickly as possible because as long as players are still in a game they’re not buying into other games!>>

We recognize that your random number generator software has been tested and approved by two independent testing companies and the RNG is in compliance with the necessary Gaming Standards. None-the-less, it does not appear nor does this guarantee that there is a consistent balanced outcome in all deals. This perceived imbalance deteriorates our quality of experience and leaves us to question the reliability of the RNG.>>

i agree with what you are saying in general but posting them is only going to make them mad....

i feel as if you get crap listed by an internet site you will forever take bad beats as they dont want you on their site.

they are only going to give you a copy and paste response but i do agree with you 100% the cards that come on the internet are BS...

they will just say "there are more hands online so therefore more bad beats" and hide behind the excuse

Good letter but they are just going to give you the standard answer that it is completely random and it seems this way because you play more hands/hour
whoareyou Jan 9, 2008 3:07 am
i agree to #2 and #3. the prediction of the outcome is pretty obvious, but what's a gamble without a gamble?
sykwit Jan 9, 2008 3:10 am
i cannot agree more with your # 3 reason, i mean i seen some bad cards come out of that deck to benefit the high chip count player ...
Stonezblues Jan 9, 2008 3:14 am
If you really think online play is rigged why would you play?

you write a blog like this, you are going to get everyone's opinion, so here it is, I think this is a ridiculous letter and you should not send it. What sort of position are you in to send a letter like this? Do you have a testing company which can perhaps more accurately test the RNG? Do you have better software? You only have circumstantial evidence and no REAL proof, other than a couple of complaints. The only thing this letter would do is inform the Pokerstars support team that you are a whiny baby about bad beats. Fact of the matter is, there is 52 cards in a deck, sh** happens. I think my point is, sending this letter would not accomplish anything.

I agree completely that it appears that the cards are sometimes NOT random. I too have talked with others and have heard the "more hands per hour" excuse. The bottom line is that it may be that the online sites believe that the players WANT an action game, and since it benefits them as well, they give 'em what they want.

if u think the cards ARE RANDOM go look in my picks dbl click the poker star table and u tell me they are random and are a true deck that pic says all end of story nothing else u can say proves anything but this pic proves all lol the stonedman!!!!!!!
wesrman Jan 10, 2008 5:29 am

If you don't want them to laugh at you, i would suggest you have some actual evidence to send along with it.

Even then i think you are wasting your time, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not saying you are right or wrong but it's not a very convincing or proffesional argument without some sort of proof.

Best of luck...

tff stone....nice to see the bogus 5 ace pic is still making the rounds.

We recognize that your random number generator software has been tested and approved by two independent testing companies and the RNG is in compliance with the necessary Gaming Standards

Myth 1. There is no gaming standard governed by any type of Governmental oversight. There are independant testing centers however all are privately owned and none are monitored by any public gaming commision.

Thats what i thought too, its so easy nowadays to fake a pic.
peevee Jan 11, 2008 12:19 pm

Just to let everyone know I contacted Professor George Marsaglia who is a mathematician and computer scientist. He is known for developing several methods of producing random numbers. He has also developed the Diehard Battery of Tests of Randomness. This is the "industry accepted benchmark" used by the independent testing companies. In 1995 he published a CD-ROM of random numbers which included the Diehard tests. I have written the Professor and am waiting on a response. I'll let you know when I get it! Thanks to everyone for all your comments! Much appreciated!

You could have just sent me those two questions...i'll answer them

1) You see so many more hands online than you do in real life.

2) You see more good starting preflop hands, because people are going all in during the rebuy period, as to where they are folding those good hands after the rebuy period, it's so simple...

U need to delete this blog right away.

standing on top of a building shouting conspiracy doesn't make it true.

For ppl who continue to disregard the increased number of hands dealt per hour online and how multi tabling increases that number, then stay ignorant.

for the ppl complaining about players playing any 2 suited cards to the river or backdooring hands. STOP i myself would have made 4 str8 flsuhes if i'd played my 45s and 63s just like the players around me GET OFF IT.

As for that rebuy nonsense what business would the site have giving everyone sick hands and then sucking out on certain players they know can reload... After the intial buyin all rebuys and add-ons go directly to the prize pool

just my guess but i betting ur the player who calls gutshots on a paired board and complains when they run into a boat.

I couldn't agree more with Duke...
