Rankings/New Schedule

Jan 1, 2008 7:29 pm Report Abuse

the New Schedule.. i think is great but I think that they need to do something about the rankings if they are gonna go with this new schedule. Here is something to think about and all comments are welcome on your views and thoughts on this matter.

check this out

The way they have it set up right now ... there is a real money ranking and a freeroll ranking everyday and they are flip flopped back and forth each day at 1400hr and 2100hrs.So to people that have a Job everyday you will miss eighter a freeroll ranking or a real money ranking everyday at 1400hrs and most likely take anyway any chance for that person to become ranked in the top 100 and even worst no shot at all to take 1st for the month let alone for the year.

this was also brought to my attention in the comments

so this also go's for the people we have overseas that can only play one game a day because the late game for them starts very early in the morning.

lets take a look at the real money rankings

the way the real money was set up before... figure if a person worked they missed the early one on wednesday but that didn't matter that much because they most likely they could still play 3 out of 4.

lets run some #'s and I'm gonna round things off to make it easier to understand and still get the point across

4 games x 52 weeks = 208 games
3 games x 52 weeks = 156 games

it is still possible to win all the prizes even 1st for the year because that person only missed 1 game a week.

lets look at how the freerolls used to be

6 games a week.. let say because they work they could only play 4 games a week. they would miss Tuesday and Friday at 1400 hrs.

6x 52weeks = 312 games
4x 52 weeks = 208 games

due to the size of the freerolls it was still possible to win even though you had to miss 8 games a month

the way it will be now with the new Schedule and these #'s will work both for real money and freerolls

7 games x 52 weeks = 364 games

the person that works Monday through Friday is gonna miss 3 games 1 week and 2 the next so every 2 weeks is gonna miss 5 games.

5 games every 2 weeks x 26 = 130 games they will miss

so they only get to play 234 games vs the person that has no life and can play them all 364 games

the person who works has no chance and pretty much out of the running and the rankings haven't even stated yet.

Now check this out.

From the way it looks Kamron took down the freeroll rankings, however they haven't updated the ranking and the wiped the stats clean.

For those who kept tract of the people up at the top of the rankings know that Kamron had the most points with the least games played.. which means the best player actually won.

Isn't that how it should be?

for EX.... lets say a person has 20,000 points and has played 200 games and there is a person behind them with 19,000 but only played 150 games. Who is the better player?

shouldn't we send our best player to the WSOP?

myself i think so and i think a lot of people will Agree.

I'm not trying to bitch or start trouble, the rankings worked good for the old Schedule but maybe the New Schedule needs to have a new rankings because it is gonna hurt a lot of our top players.

Please give me your thoughts...... thank you

Great read Cheech never look @ it like that but you are right i can play either way i just work too much LOL ........also the New Buy-in is way over my head now 1 and 5 bucks was ok (never play anyone over 1 buck) but now you need a nice size backroll to play and have any chance to win the month or year so all i can say is GL luck to all of you that can play and hope to see ya in some other freeroll Powder

WOLFMAN225 Jan 1, 2008 7:39 pm

Makes sense to me, cheech. Maybe we could have "companion" rankings. It would be a simple addition of a couple lines of code to show a composite score based on the ratio of games played :: total points earned. I'm one of those guys who isn't able to play many of the 1400 tournys.

Kudos to Kamron for his outstanding play this past year! See you guys in the $10K freeroll later on. (Yes, I made top 100)

I agree cheech with what you are saying here, cause I am one of those ppl who work M-F and this does affect my playing time. Also I would like to add to this blog that isn't RB's suppose to be about helping ppl learn to play poker and help ppl build bankrolls through the freerolls and cbuild the community through same said freerolls. Maybe it should not be called a poker community anymore but a only for the ones who can afford to play community.

of course...leave it to the lead dog...great read cheech...and you are 100% right...

I was stoked, but now I'm bummed. I happen to be one of those 9 to 5 central time people. Look to me that the amount of tourneys played should factor into the ranking points somehow...or does it? If I can only play half, for example, and do great on average, is it only for my pride because my ranking entries are half of, say, joecollege, who skips botany class every other day for a ranker, and whose results average the same as mine? This can't be right can it?
jnatut Jan 1, 2008 7:44 pm
what about the American player that cant deposit this is an unfair advantage to overseas players
cepsi Jan 1, 2008 7:45 pm
wow great blog cheech. yeah i def agree with you. As you said alot of people take these very seriously and it will effect some of our top players
otis19 Jan 1, 2008 7:45 pm
i like this idea. well stated cheech
oakleyannie Jan 1, 2008 7:46 pm

I HAVE ALL ALONG BELIEVE THAT THE FREEROLL RANKINGS SHOULD BE POINTS WON ON AN AVERAGE. MANY PEOPLE HAVE JOBS AND PEOPLE WHO DONT SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED BY BEING ABLE TO ACCUMULATE MORE POINTS BECAUSE THEY CAN PLAY MORE GAMES.

TOTAL NUMBER OF POINITS ACCUMULATED BY EACH PLAYER SHOULD BE DIVIDED BY THE NUMBER OF GAMES THEY PLAYED.

PERIOD..... IT IS THE WAY ALL OTHER COMPETIONS ARE DONE,

BEST AVERAGE SHOULD BE THE WINNER AND WILL REPRESENT THE BEST OF THE BEST

cepsi Jan 1, 2008 7:46 pm
re jnatut, its not unfair to US players at all. In europe unless u want to stay up all night and never sleep we can only play one a day anyway
HillieJones Jan 1, 2008 7:46 pm
I have yet to be in any rankings, I guess cause I haven't played that much. Maybe shouldn't even have a say so to speak in this. But I can add, and I fully agree with what your saying.
KokomoRed Jan 1, 2008 7:47 pm

I wrote a blog yesterday called APPE (average points per event) that , in some ways, backs up exactly what you are saying. A large nuber of the top 100 had a very LOW APPE but had played so many events they had enough points to remain in the top 100. I, like you , don't care much for the "machine gun" method of earning points. I, too, have a LIFE and a job that won't allow me the oppurtunity to park myself in front of the computer hour after hour, day after day.

Anther thing to think of...for those with jobs that start early in the A.M., even the weekday evening events will probably last late into the night. Too late to make a strong finish and still get to bed for work the next day.

Guess those Railbirds who have no life other than poker will be the ones RB's will cater to in 2008!!!

SHERRY524 Jan 1, 2008 7:47 pm

Whoa Germs there is ample opportunity for those with no bankroll to play in the freerolls available. One a day is very generous. Also this site is much more than about freerolls as you said its also about learning. You dont even need to play in any of them to take advatage of that!

larry1dart Jan 1, 2008 7:47 pm
Cheech I see your point but disagree with the conclusion. This is supposed to be a poker community. The prizes are just a bonus. I would be here even if they didn't offer the prizes. I was actually surprised when I won one of the months because I didn't know I actually won anything but entry into the top 100 freeroll. There are alot of free tournaments still and they are now on everyday with all of them counting towards the rankings. I did not get to play alot of the tourneys but I still was able to do well. And I know as good of a player as you are, you will still do great even if you have less FRs to do it in. GL to you and I think I will wait until I see how it shakes out before I comment on it.
Thunders86 Jan 1, 2008 7:48 pm

I tihnk that maybe there should be a new ranking schedule because availability seems to an issue with some of our players

peshrosh Jan 1, 2008 7:49 pm
cheech you hit it right on the button.
DazzleOne Jan 1, 2008 7:49 pm
Hey birdies, this is an international site, open to players around the world. Having tournaments alternate days and times is about as fair as it gets.

I like the new schedule because every tournament is ranked.

See you at the tables "Good hole cards, play them well."
JAG1024 Jan 1, 2008 7:49 pm

You put in a lot of work on this Cheech and I agree with you completely!

I work, so yes, I will miss games and there are even times that I may not be able to play in later games. It kind of takes the wind out of your sails when you know from day one that your chances of making it is greatly reduced. Hope a solution can be found to the inequity of the situation.

Ronbo69 Jan 1, 2008 7:49 pm

With a minimum amount of entries of course..say, 15 a month or so..sry..
