the Railbirds.....
I'm spending this night like I have many nights in 2007; the green glow of my pc and the clicking of keystrokes have been a familiar routine for me this past year. I estimate (conservatively) I've spent an average of four hours a day for the past 300 days playing poker, reading blogs, reading poker books, making comments, contacting friends, asking questions, and improving my game. That's 1200 hours of practice/study I've invested since joining Railbirds. Time well spent, as I look back on the year's accomplishments.
I've built a network of good friends, and without that, it would be pointless to log on to Railbirds. My friends have come through for me time and time again, with everything from poker advice to a quick money transfer so I could play in a tourney after busting out in the 21:00 freeroll.
I've found a great group of poker players that share my interest in the game..... I took a risk and did something I rarely do, I joined the group. I'm a member in good standing (last time I checked) of DonkeyNation, and I can honestly say it's a pleasure to be included .... we have some very competent players on our team, and it's always fun to play poker with them. They're not pro's, but they conduct themselves as such........ I'm glad I became a donk. Don't be fooled by our avatar.........
As far as actual performance (learning the game) I think I did okay for a beginner.... I managed to make the monthly rankings a few times, and stayed in the top 100 for most of the year...... I didn't finish in the top 100 for the year, which was a goal I set when I joined last March. I've won approximately $150 from freeroll play and micro limit games ( and lost that much along the way). So at the end of the day, I've had alot of fun and gained alot of experience, and Railbirds picked up the tab. Thanks, Railbirds.
I seem to be choosing the right answer in the daily quiz more frequently these days..... that and ten grand will get me a seat at the Main Event, heh, heh
I have a little more knowledge about the game than I did nine months ago, and I've heard that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing..... so I plan on learning more. I hear it takes a lifetime.
Looking forward to playing at your table in 2008....... I'll be the pink bird, or the donkey..... the one that's after your chipstack.
Best luck to all,
tilton
