freeroll vs cash

Jan 1, 2008 4:37 am Report Abuse

freeroll vs cash players??? why is there suddenly a line??????

ok magoo is officially cranky. i love railbirds, have been addicted since i stepped in the door, and as far as i am concerned i have contributed a fair bit here..............ok they have cut back a freeroll, everyone is still getting something for nothing, they have upped the cash games, great for people that are trying to improve and build bigger bank rolls. i am still trying the problem.

i get that some people don't have the bankroll to play the cash games, but i see it as something to work towards, not something to complain about, saying that cash players don't contribute to this site is just plain wrong, and one person i KNOW that contributes more than pretty much anyone, never plays the freerolls, so suddenly the cash players are what is making the site go downhill???? i just don't understand.

railbirds overall is seen as a joke of a poker forum site by many serious players, because we are a bunch of freerollers as far as they are concerned, they have no idea what kind of family we have here. Wall and i defend railbirds all the way to a lot of these players, because its not about freerolls but about poker and the family we have here.

the idea that players such as Wall and myself don't contribute is really kinda upsetting, this is in no way an attack on anyone, freerollers, cash players, or both, its just a wake up and smell the coffee...........just because something is not going the way u want it, does not mean that u have to start putting down anyone else or anything else that is done on the site.

i would like to thank the railpros and mentors of this site for all the improvements that have been made, u are giving us a chance to grow up poker players and also letting us grow up as a site......

happy new year everyone, lets make 2008 great

weeeeeeeeee.... dual blogs about the complaints.... thank you thank you..... i agree with everything! zomg!
A55A55IN Jan 1, 2008 4:46 am
my argument isn't so much about the lack of freerolls on the new schedule as it is the repition of the same games/cost on the same dates/times

four $10 games....all on FT....all at 1600 on Sunday (the site i have limited bankroll on....and seem not to win as much on)
five $5 games....on FT....all at 1400 on Thursdays when I'm at work
four $5 games....on PS....all at 2100 on Mondays
nine $3 games ...all on PS ....all at 1400 on Tuesdays (at work) and Saturdays
nine $1 games...both FT &PS.....all at 2100 on Wednesday & Fridays

I also think the guarantees are a bit of a joke.....I doubt that they'll ever have to pay them (except the non holdem $1 and maybe the $10 games)..and since the number of regular freerolls is cut in half...that means more money from affiliate payments in the owners pockets....by my calculations ...about $6000 a month (though maybe not that much...since they'll end up paying SOME portion of some of the guarantees)

Who in the bloody hell told ya'll that you don't contribute?? Have them tied and quartered!!!
CalculatedMove Jan 1, 2008 4:48 am
I agree for anyone to sit and say Money players are ruining the site is crazy. To say we ruin the site is not only a lie, but a complete joke. I think most serious poker players don't come to the site for the reason Magoo stated. They don't get to know the majority of the people here. I am a proud to say I'm apart of the site, and I don't mean any disrepsect to anyone but for folks who play freerolls say we are the cause of the site going downhill is crazy. The Site isn't going downhill its getting better in my opinion, and I want to thank all the hard working prorails.
MrsMagoo Jan 1, 2008 4:49 am
i understand the scheduling A55A55IN, try playing them from Australia, still doesn't mean that its a wrong move, and the owners are getting money for all this, WAY TO BLOODY GO, good on them, they give us this amazing site with no join up fees, no nothing, and they give money everyday...........so why is that a bad thing????
jroyfus Jan 1, 2008 4:52 am

agreed magoo u hit the nail on the head as always

yes when i started here i was a freeroller for a cpl of months but now with a bankroll from them and the real money ranks i dont freeroll much anymore at all just the cash tourneys now

and i have always loved this site

walkindog Jan 1, 2008 4:54 am
i say this should give those without bankrolls to play even harder in the freerolls so they CAN get a bankroll...my bankroll runs on a shoestring so i KNOW i'm gonna step up my game so i will be able to play as many of the buy-in trnys as possible.....i like it........p.s......i
walkindog Jan 1, 2008 4:57 am
and whos the geniuses saying the cash players dont contribute to the site??....thats just plain absurd...
tiamarie223 Jan 1, 2008 4:58 am

I never saw that anyone said you guys don't contribute. I (playing mainly the freerolles) certainly don't feel that way. I know that I am a small fish in a big pond, but everyone makes me feel welcome anyway. And I have noticed it is a select few who are always there doing things for this site. Whether it be offering advice, throwing private tourneys whatever. While some of us may not like the changes, we'll get over it. But the ones who are here for the friends gained, the advice given, the Family will still be here and the others, well...

Thanks for all you do

Happy New Year!!

A55A55IN Jan 1, 2008 5:01 am
Basically......a little variation in the dates/times/costs would be nice.
MrsMagoo Jan 1, 2008 5:06 am

this is the comment that upset me.............

"As I've thought about this since originally publishing this blog. I think there is a likely dividing of birds. Cash players versus freeroll members. I don't personally think this is going to turn out well.

Cash players won't be big site contributors and the freeroll crowd will start going to other forums. My guess is a year from now birds will be nothing like it was in 2007. Perhaps not for the better either."

Baseball_Tim Jan 1, 2008 5:08 am
hahaha... show me a forum that has this much in guarantee money in their tournaments..... weeeeeeeeee railbirds! love ya much!
walkindog Jan 1, 2008 5:14 am
well Magoo...to whomever wrote that comment this is what i say to them....:blah:
TheWall Jan 1, 2008 5:18 am

there is no way in hell everyone is going to be happy with the changes

it is physicly imposible to please everyone

but that being said i am happy as a pig in mud

i blog and remain here for 1 reason the majority of poeple on this site are nice giving poeple who think of others as much as them selves

BUT every single person, good or bad great or average poker player out there has always got 1 of 2 responses when i tell them to visit railbirds.com

railbirds.com never heard of it

or

lol why that site is a joke and so are its players

i am not sick and tired of defending my fellow railbirds but it might be nice if we started to get some respect from the more prominent players out there

in my opinion its great that railbirds started to grow up and join the real world

or in the words of another player i talked to

its about time railbirds left kindergarten

more money games and less freeroll hell yes

i would personally like to thank each and every prorail and railboss for this reat site and the work you guys do here,

ps personally id say get rid of all the freerolls or make 1 big 1 each week but then again i dont care

I AM NOT HERE FOR FREEROLLS BUT TO IMPROVE MY GAME AND BE PART OF A GREAT POKER COMMUNITY

sida77 Jan 1, 2008 5:21 am
first of all I am a freeroll and money pplayer. i think having half freerolls and half realmoney is not AS good for the majority of the site because the majority of ppl on this site can only play the freerolls. I am still very thankful to this site for having the freerolls everyday but im just saying i dont think it will be as good as last yr. i also think the guarantees will be pointless because it will go over the prizepool most of the time but thats just my guess. ALso, i disagree with whoever said cash players dont contribut
jontyroads Jan 1, 2008 5:21 am

Let me say this, the private tourneys, freerolls, money tourneys is what first caught my eye on pokerstars, what's this railbirds all about, I saw the web address on players images, so I went for a look. I saw freerolls, get involved in the site get invited to freerolls, then I saw invites to cash tourneys as well, wow this great, lets play poker.

Then something happened, people started to request friendship, I invited friends, a clan was formed (GO POKEROOS), now I have a poker family.

My point? THIS SITE ROCKS, I DON'T GIVE A STUFF ABOUT FREEROLL AND CASH TOURNEYS ANYMORE, THEY ARE GREAT THAT THEY ARE THERE, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY IT'S NOT WHAT KEEPS ME HERE. THE FRIENDS THAT I'VE MADE HERE ARE PRICELESS.

RAILBIRDS RULE

HOORAY FOR THE PRORAILS AND OTHERS WHO WORK ON THIS SITE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

AND AS FOR THE WHINGERS, THEY CAN PISS OFF.

CHEERS JONTY

P.S GO POKEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS

ButtonDog Jan 1, 2008 5:28 am

I play in just about every freeroll this site offer's. About two months ago I added the real money tournaments to my railbird agenda. There are many players that play both tournaments. QuasiPro is among the ranking leaders in both of the tournament rankings.

Add the various clan tournaments into the equation that I play in and I find that I play more railbird tournaments than I do on all of the poker site combined.

I wish I had the computer and organizational skills to help with this site. This site has been a life saver for me. It helps me keep my sanity.

I see no point in advocating real money vs freeroller. It serves no purpose. I also noticed the comment that made MrsMagoo write this blog. That statement was wrong.

Railbirds rock and always will. I hope to see four or five of them on the final table of the WSOP Main Event in 2008. Railbirds has given two of them the chance to fullfill that dream.

watchdog26 Jan 1, 2008 5:29 am

A55a55IN,

Far as I know a $500 guarantee means that no matter what there will be $500 in there. That money is there period, it doesn't me that if enough join to exceed that $500 mark that the original $500 goes away.

Are you trying to say that if 51 people join a $10 game the prize pool will only be $510? Far as I can tell it will now be $1010, isn't that how guarantees work?

And MAGOO I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! (don't kick my a$$ wall) but you have done and added so much to this site since I've been here it can't even be tallied.

Seems to me that out of the 50 or so really active birds that I see on a daily basis, all of them are cash players. Most of the freeroller contributions I see are donkey this and donkey that blogs. Just my observations though. Obviously there are exceptions, but to say we that don't really play the freerolls don't contribute is obsurd and pisses me off also. I've manage to play a few, but mainly so I can play with fellow RB's, I for one can't stand freerolls, but I love my RB community.

A55A55IN Jan 1, 2008 5:38 am
nope watchdog...the 500$ is not an ADD ON ...it is a guarantee....if only 25 people play the pot will be 500$(RB pays the 250$ differance). If 100 play it will be 1000$ (RB pays nothing) not 1500....if 51 play it will be 510$.
sida77 Jan 1, 2008 5:39 am
no watchdog $500 guarantee means there will be at least $500 if 51 ppl it will be $510 thats y i think there stupid because there going to go over that limit everytime
