Christmas Traditions...

Dec 23, 2007 9:02 pm Report Abuse

Thanks to MrsMagoo for the beautiful ornament...

We have several Christmas traditions that have culminated through the years...Some are brought from my childhood, and others are new...

The greatest and funnest by far is the party that goes along with putting up the Christmas Tree. This is usually done the weekend of Thanksgiving or the week after and was a great part of my childhood that I brought with me into my own family. We all still go to Mom's to put up the tree each year, and ohhh what a time we all have! (For those of you who don't know, I am the oldest of 8 children) Hence the reason I have an only child. LOL

Some of the smaller traditions that have sneaked their way into our home are:

1. We leave a couple rolls of wrapping paper for Santa so he can wrap all the gifts when he gets here...This started one year when my daughter found the paper and brilliant as he was, my hubby came up with the idea to leave the paper under the tree for Santa. That has remained a tradition.

2. Another brought from my childhood is we leave the camera under the tree beside the milk and cookies, and Santa snaps a picture of all the kids while they are sleeping.

3. One of the most fun is Magic Reindeer Food...Oatmeal mixed with lots and lots of glitter is sprinkled into the yard and the outside lights reflecting off of it guide the reindeer so they don't forget to stop...The oatmeal provides a tasty snack for them while they wait on Santa. By morning, the oatmeal is gone and only the glitter is left, thus giving the impression that the reindeer ate their snack as well...This one was started by my Mom and my daughter about 5 years ago...

What are some of your favorite Christmas Traditions?

I would like to wish everyone a very

our tradition is to always chuck the tree off the balcony after we take the ornaments off. It sits and decomposes until one of the family get tired of tripping over it and takes it to the street so the garbage collectors will finally take it. That is usually around mid March by then.

love the wrapping paper one, i had a problem a few years back when the kids picked up on the wrapping paper ( smart little buggers they are lol ) and we told them that Santa had a very busy year that year, and asked if we could wrap the presents he left...........

and i love the magic reindeer food, thats awesome.

it's going to be so different for us this year, usually my parents drive here by 5am so that they can watch the kids open their pressies, my mum is a christmas freak, but this year Mum has put a big halt on Christmas, we lost a precious soul just after Christmas last year, my brothers best friend, and he might as well have been mum's son, and she is having a really hard time coping, so i talked to the kids a few nights ago, since Gran and Grandad won't be getting here till about 8 am, how would they feel about hanging off ripping into the presents, they don't mind one little bit, cause somehow its just not the same without Mum and Dad there to watch and enjoy as well...

Have a wonderful Christmas, and may the New Year bring happiness and love to everyone

Christmas Ornament

Well Thanksgiving weekend we decororate the tree. I do the lights and the garland, then our girls get to put all the decorations up (Drives my ocd sister nuts to see our tree-she has to have every bulb just so and no clashing colors, she tells me her kids enjoy watching her decorate, lol) all while listening to carols and singing. Then Daddy puts the topper on we light the tree up and the Christmas season begins for us.

We also open one present Christmas eve. Not sure exactly why, just something we did when I was growing up.

Then Christmas morning the kids get to get into their stockings before I get up, but everything else waits for momma and daddy. Then we have family Christmas dinner at Grams (A huge affair, there are 30-50 of us any year) Then we all go home and come back around 6 or 7 for Christmas birthdays. My Gram and a cousin were both born on Christmas and my daughter was born the 26th, so since they get the short end of the stick they get an extra party.
